A local man who says he found a noose on his Caldwell office desk, will not participate in the mediation process between the EEOC and Big Creek Construction Company.

Joseph Eglan filed a charge of discrimination after he says he found a knotted up piece of rope and reported it to the company. He believes the company did little in its investigation.

After receiving Eglan's request, the EEOC offered mediation to try to resolve the matter.

However, Eglan has opted to not be a part of that process. He will instead leave it up to the EEOC to continue its own investigation.

MIA or AWOL at Lucy's Tiger den for a un- approved week R&R?

I understand the company did not even offer an apology. An internal mediation process was done and nothing was resolved. I personally know Joseph Eglan and he is not the slime ball you all have portrayed him to be and I hope you will all see that one day. Way to go Mr. Eglan. God Bless you and your family. When people stand up for what they feel is right, we should not judge them. That's why a lot of people never come forth because they are afraid of what others will say. Thanks for coming forth Mr. Eglan. There has been such a lashing at this man that we all have him as being lazy and money hungry when in fact he has worked hard all his life and was in the United States Air Force. During his tour he was M.I.A in Vietnam. So the person you all have been bashing has at one time fought for your freedom and was wounded in action and look how we as Americans have repaid him. A cruel act has been done and I feel that the people involved should at least apology.

So now the professor declares all that do not identify rope as a "Noose" to be ignorant or intolarant? What utter BUL--HIT! This is clearly a case of "How much MONEY can I scam using this story" on the part of more lazy, loud, inconsiderate, social misfit black people. REFUSED MEDIATION! WANTS LEGAL ACTION! Anything come to MIND? I am SICK of the simpering, whining black masses throwing the "Politically Correct" spear when they are SO socially barren of ANY manners.

Jackson and Sharpton are bound to hear about this and come to town demanding action and compensation for pain and suffering. That is all these two know how to do. I have first hand experience with Sharpton in this capacity. They don't have any conscience, they just make demands, stir up trouble and leave town just as the you-know-what approaches the fan. They are the instigators of our time.

To Aggie 12: Well, since you don't realize that anytime the NAACP, or the idea of the NAACP, is brought to a community to fix a "race" problem then Sharpton and Jackson follow suit, then I don't guess I need to explain that to you. I will be the last person to play a race card. I'm sick of people labeling themselves African American or Irish American or even Asian American. If you were born in America then you're an American - pure and simple. I have roots in Ireland, Germany, Russia, England, and even Cherokee Indian, but I call myself an American. Mr. Eglan played the race card when he refused to follow the rules with the EEOC process!

No one knows the story here. We play around between black friends and white friend here at work and we do not get our feelings hurt. What I am tring to say if it was done to offend he has the right to pursue to the maximum extent. Although if its done as horse play between friends let it go.

Cynthia, what in the world does Al Sharpton or Jessie Jackson have to do with this? Sounds like you are playing the race card.

To Steven. "Grammer" is grammar and "made" is mad. in any case, I know the "victim" and he was up in arms about another case he heard about in The Eagle this year where a bunch of folks split almost 2 million bucks. This is what he was going on about around town. http://www.theeagle.com/texas/Company-agrees-to--1-9M-settlement

Oh for cryin out loud, just do mediation.. it's cheaper and you may end up with a more 'pleasant' deal.

Posted by: Wesley Location: CS on Sep 4, 2008 at 06:30 PM
Why (if it was really a noose) did he unravel the rope? Why didn't he go to upper management first? Why did he refuse to participate in the investigation? Why is he refusing mediation? That, KBTX is what your loyal viewers would like to know! (Meredith Rocks!)

Posted by: back up a minute on Sep 4, 2008 at 05:11 PM
The picture of the noose is of KBTX's creation, the video of the so-called noose is nothing more than a piece of rope with a knot in it. The mention of the incident being a practical joke is also of KBTX's creation. Mr Eglan alleged the company's investigation was a joke. From a company employee, apparently Mr Eglan does not even have a desk. So, a rope with a slip knot on the end was sitting on someone else's desk, and Mr Eglan perceives this as intimidation. There is no question in my mind he and his wife believe whole-heartedly that it's a noose, but when you strip emotions away none of this adds up. If they take this to court they will lose. There's nothing here.

He won't go to mediation, cause his wife wears the pants in the family...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Is it just me or is Anonymous on Sept 4 at 7:22am, showing a bit of a racist tongue? I would hate to know I had someone with that kind of racist thinking in my corner. Everyone has their own thoughts here and the right to express those thoughts. Mr. Eglan knew that people from all around would post their thoughts once he took his story to the media, so he or anyone else should be able to accept the feelings of others. Race aside, if in fact it was a noose, it should not have been placed on anyones desk. I also look at it this way, if Mr. Eglan wanted proper action to take place and was not looking for a law suit and money, he would be the first one to show up at that mediation. I was feeling sorry for him, but I am now leaning toward the fact that some people want to live in the past and milk it for what it is worth. Maybe he will change his mind and go to the mediation and find the proper resolution and proper actions will be taken.

Kyle, you are right, and also Christina, you say that you work to hard, and your job is too professional for these games...Well, then, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?

Posted by: Cynthia Location: Bryan on Sep 4, 2008 at 03:21 PM
Imagine that...the rest of the world could see that coming. Sounds like he's waiting for the Rev's (Jackson and Sharpton) to come to his rescue. There's a reason why the EEOC has a process...to fix the problem (if there's a problem) at the lowest level possible. Mr. Eglan: you might have had support from people in the beginning of this, but your actions speak volumes about what you want from this situation and now you've lost support from most people!

Posted by: Jon Location: Bryan on Sep 4, 2008 at 02:45 PM
sounds more like a witch hunt refusing mediation is just a lame attempt at getting attention and extorting money this isn't a race issue it's a money issue

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO TALK ABOUT SOMEONE USING ALL CAPS. GO CHECK YOUR GRAMMER. DID ME TYPING IN ALL CAPS, MAKE YOU MADE TOO?

Dear Abby, I was considering a new fence around my yard. Should I poll the neighbors to see if anyone will mind?

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 4, 2008 at 01:45 PM
Sounds like no attorney would take the case.

Posted by: Kyle Location: Bryan on Sep 4, 2008 at 12:58 PM
Typing in all CAPS shows a lack of decorum and intelligence.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Hearne on Sep 4, 2008 at 12:21 PM
What?! He has chosen not to participate in the mediation process? This does not make any sense. Ok, I guess the only thing he hopes to gain is money. How can he gain anything from this unless they know that it was intended for him and who did it? I also heard about this story last night on KBTX out of Waco. Drama seems to travel fast.

Posted by: CHRISTINA Location: BRYAN on Sep 4, 2008 at 10:14 AM
I WOULD GO AFTER THE MONEY...Y NOT? THIS SHOULD TEACH OTHER LESSONS. JUST A THOUGHT. I COULD REALLY CARE LESS. I WORK HARD AND MY JOB IS TO PROFESSIONAL FOR THOSE KIND OF GAMES.

Dear Abby, My wife left a noose on my pillow. Should I be concerned???

Posted by: Justme Location: CS on Sep 4, 2008 at 10:08 AM
RF, I am tired of the race card being played all the time also. It seems everytime something happens, someone is always playing the race card..people need to grow up and get over the race issue!

Perhaps if a sincere look into Mr. Egland's past were performed, it would show that this isn't the first time he has filed a false report.

Posted by: K Location: Bryan on Sep 4, 2008 at 09:05 AM
Who is being racist now? Pull your head out of your rump and see this for what it is.

Posted by: Kyle Location: Bryan on Sep 4, 2008 at 08:30 AM
Of course it was all about money, it was obvious from the beginning, especially all that fake crying Eglan's wife put on for the cameras.

Posted by: Joe Location: College Station on Sep 4, 2008 at 07:32 AM
THIS IS ALL ABOUT MONEY!

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 4, 2008 at 07:22 AM
What a bunch of white ,ignorant, racists. It's better to be thought a fool, than open your mouth and remove all doubt. Well, nobody had to open their mouth here to show they're fools. You can tell the idiots on here have never been exposed to other cultures. They have never lived anywhere else, so all they know are their inbred ways. Yee-haw Brazos Valley. The South is gonna rise again. Not a good set of teeth between all of you! Enter Comments:

I'm getting sick and tired of the race card.

That's real smart. File a complaint and then refuse to participate in the process to address the complaint. Go figure.

Posted by: Go Figure on Sep 3, 2008 at 07:21 PM
Yep, it's about the money.

"A local man who says he found a noose on his Caldwell office desk, will not participate in the mediation process between the EEOC and Big Creek Construction Company." Joe, I WAS on your side, but you squandered my support when you decided to milk this for everything you can finagle the ignorant liberal idiots and racist blacks into giving you instead of seeking a fair resolution by Feds who have no love for bigots.
