Could a cheater be born a cheater?

That's what new research is claiming...saying a man's tendency to be unfaithful may be influenced by his genes.

One man, Henry Spicer, says "I think if you was raised by a person who had more than one boyfriend or girlfriend. I think that's the way you gonna grow cuz that's all you know."

The study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, claims that a certain genetic make-up could affect an important attachment hormone which prevents a man from establishing strong relationships and getting married...or could make them less likely to be monogamous.

Another man is skeptical. "I don't buy that it's in our genes. That we're born that way. I'm sorry I don't believe it," said Ken Davis.

Dr. Phillip Muskin says this so called "cheating gene" could make a man more vulnerable to be unfaithful...but it doesn't necessarily mean he is unable to maintain a monogamous relationship.

Psychiatrist Phillip Muskin says, "I think the bottom line of this study there are genetic vulnerabilities that we all inherit. We can be ruled by them or we can be in charge of them. And the choices are always ours."

Women who are responding to this have no clue about this horrible problem we men have. I have a gorgeous Brasilian wife who takes care of me from head to toe and I still find it absolutely hard to keep myself from banging other women, who 9 out of 10 times do not compare to my wife. I need help..

Seriously? It's all about choices. No one no thing (not even a gene) can make us "cheat" it's a personal choice. Most peopel who do cheat feel lacking in some area of their relationship, and had the communicated more effectively may not be in that situation.

Cheating gene? I dont believe it! I believe that if a person wants to cheat, thats what they will do, rather they are male or female. And another thought on that subject, if you meet someone and they are cheating on their spouse with you, what do you think they are going to do if you marry them? You bet they will be cheating on you!

Also, is there any proof to the comments I have read that women cheat as often as men. I think that would be interesting to see the numbers on both sides. I personally don't believe that statement.

I agree that we all have choices but there are things that are harder for some people to control because of family genes. It all goes back to the fact that we are able to make those choises and that is where the blame will placed if there is a mistake that is made but we need to be more understanding towards people that might have a harder time making the right choises due to genetics. I am a male and have never cheated on my wife. I have had the chance but the reason I didn't wasn't even because of my wife. It was because of my children. I wouldn't want to lose my wife. If I did, I could make it, even find someone else to marry, I wouldn't get back the time I would lose with my kids. To not be around them every day, not to be able to watch them grow on a daily basis, that is all I needed. More people need to think about their children before making the mistake to cheat. I feel most people cheat because they didn't marry "the right" person. That person is sometimes hard to find. be nice

I don't think it's a man's genes that makes him cheat as much as what in his "jeans" that makes him want to cheat.

Maybe they cheat because they are pigs and it would not matter what is or is not at home. Cheating on a spouse is just trashy behavior, regardless of who does it.

Mabe I'll cheat because I dont get any love and attention at home!

Women cheat just as much as men.Know matter what it is wrong. My husbands ex wife cheated on him the whole time they were married and her next husband and now her new husband. While they are working she is out cheating.Men are blamed for everything.

let's just make any bad behavior into a "disease" or "out of our control" so that people will be able to claim "It's not my fault!" and not have to deal with the consequences of their choices.

ALL THAT DOES IS GIVE MEN REASON TO CHEAT....

Whatever happened to personal responsibility? People are always trying to make excuses for bad behavior when the ultimate fault lies with the individual, not his/her genes, upbringing, or anything else. And what about women? Women are just as capable of cheating as men are and yet this so call scientist completely ignores that fact.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 4, 2008 at 09:00 AM
hey maybe they cheat because they don't get the love and support they need for home.

Posted by: Dave Location: CS on Sep 4, 2008 at 08:45 AM
there's really an article about this? I can offer a much less detailed explanation of this so called phenomenon. It's called a weak mind. Some men have it, some women do too. Men and women both cheat, men are just better at getting caught.

In reference to the title of this article; NO MORE THAN ANY CHEATING WOMAN !!!! Typical Phd. for you. How much did the governement pay him for this non-sense?

Posted by: Angie Location: CS on Sep 4, 2008 at 07:58 AM
Give me a break. Henry Spicer sounds like a cheater looking for an excuse. Mabe I have this gene as well, guess my husband will have to deal with it then.

A weak person makes a cheater any way you look at it.
