Independent gubernatorial hopeful Carole Keeton Strayhorn's lost her court battle to force the state to speed verification of signatures to get her on the November ballot.
An Austin federal judge ruled that the Texas secretary of state's plan to examine voter signatures one by one is "reasonable and nondiscriminatory."
In other news, a state senator wants Comptroller Strayhorn to investigate the contractor processing applications for Texas' low-cost children's insurance and other benefits.
Democratic Senator Eliot Shapleigh asked her to conduct a comprehensive audit and performance review. The contractor, Texas Access Alliance, is led by Accenture, a Bermuda-based firm.
