A Hurricane Gustav evacuee was hit and killed by a truck in Robertson County.

We talked to the Hearne Police Department overnight and a sergeant said 63 year old James Watkens of New Orleans was killed around 10 Thursday night on the eight hundred block of West Brown.

Hearne police say Watkens was trying to cross the street when a truck hit him.

Officers say driver did not see Watkens on the road.

Watkens died on the scene.

Police say Watkens was in Hearne visiting family and had left New Orleans because of Gustav.

It is sad for the family, but what a blessing that he was able to spend time with them before he died.

That goes to show you,no matter where you go, what you're running from, when it's your time you will go. I feel so bad for his family and even though I don't know him, may he rest in peace!

How sad for his family, but how ironic, too, that he leaves New Orleans for his safety and ends up dying anyway. It just goes to show that God is in control of your days.

So sad! My prayers are with the family of the victim and the driver.
