Questions surrounding the accident in early August that left three teens dead might only be answered by dash cam video.

On August 3, the teens died near Copperfield and Booneville when their car hit a tree and caught fire.

The underage driver had a blood alcohol content over the legal limit.

Bryan Police say they initially responded to a call about two cars racing.

A police cruiser with its lights on was behind the vehicle when it crashed, and captured the accident on video.

"They were not racing as in side by side, they were traveling at a high rate of speed, but they were not side by side drag racing," said Assistant Chief Curtis Darby, of the Bryan Police Department.

Police say the other car traveling with them at the time, was driven by a victim's older brother, Wayne Dicky Junior, who had at least one person with him.

Dicky has been charged with making alcohol available to those minors.

News Three has filed an open records request for that dash-cam video.

CAN WE MOVE ON TO A DIFFERNT SUBJECT / ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Posted by: Kelly Location: BCS on Sep 9, 2008 at 09:23 PM
I know the mother of Alex Dickey very well. She is hurt for the lost of her daughter and the arrest of her son. Please leave this alone. Find a new subject. Let's concentrate on maybe trying to keep control of our own families and not worry about what something that is not in our control, and never was. God is and was in control of this subject it did not matter when or how, when he speaks and calls your name and number it's your time.

To Anonymous Sept 9, 2008 1:52PM: Your father's method of putting you on a tractor prevented a recurrence, but it didn't stop you from acquiring the alcohol that gave you the hangover. Fortunately, you made it home from the festivities to get on that tractor. I am sure those 4 hours seemed more like 4 days. Your father sounds like a good and caring man. Oh did I have some hangovers in my younger days. We live and we learn. Just like you and I did, kids that are determined will find a way to get alcohol. It only takes once to have a tragedy. We all need to communicate the dangers of alcohol to our children. My kids have never been in any kind of trouble, but I am not naive. They are human and like their father they have the capacity to make mistakes. I am full of questions every time they leave. I am not here to be their friend. I have made them watch the KBTX video footage of this accident as well as a few others. Never pass the opportunity to discuss alcohol, drugs or drunk drivers.

"The only way to stop kids from acquiring alcohol is to lock them up in a cage in your basement." My father's alternate method worked pretty well; he put me on a tractor with a bad muffler for 4 hours the next morning when I woke up with a hangover. And the old joke is true; for the first hour, you're afraid you're going to die, and after that, you're scared you won't...

"Tough Love" - it sounds like you have grown to be a wise man. I appreciate your down-to-earth and honest post. What you suggest is pretty much all that we as parents can do. Thanks for speaking up.

Kids are going to find a way to get alcohol, if they want it bad enough. Yes, Mommy and Daddy that includes your "little angel" as well. Take it from me. From the time I was 16 until I was 18 I drank and drove almost every weekend. It is not something I am proud of but, I am not going to deny the truth. That was 24 years ago. I finally woke up and realized when I went off to college that getting drunk every weekend wasn't very smart and wasn't really all that cool after all. The only way to stop kids from acquiring alcohol is to lock them up in a cage in your basement. If you do that they will probably still find a way to ferment something on their own if they want it bad enough. The best way to stop something like this is to educate your children about the dangers of alcohol, the dangers of driving drunk, pray for the very best and ask a lot of tough questions. Ask who, what, when, where, why and how every time they leave the house. I do. I don't want them making my mistakes.

cont. Also it was brought out in the begining that it was "street racing" would you have assumed he was racing by himself? Hello? Also how could one officer "chase" two vehicles? I am sure by the time the office was on site the other vehicle was out of site. If the boy had seen his sister crash, i truly believe he would have turned around, he was out of site and never looked back. This young man has alot to deal with in the future, he has regret, shame and letting his sister and family down. I can only imagine what these families are going thru, I will pray for them as I have been and pray for you people that have nothing better to do then criticize and point fingers. Because I forgot....you are all perfect!

ok, I have never posted on one of these before but i have heard enough. 1. These blogs should not be allowed all that has been accomplished is, downing parents (who make mistakes), hurting kids (that have passed away), and blaming people that you dont know for fact if they are to blame. 2. You cant blame the parents, how are you suppose to know where your kid tells you that they will be is not where the are? Have you spoken with the boys mother/father? how about the girls mother/father? Do you honestly sit here and think that they are not blaming themselves already? This was a stupid mistake i agree and the sad thing is they wont be the last teenagers killed by drinking and driving or by racing......kids do stupid kid things. I myself have been there done that. I have wondered myself how I made it home. And yes that is stupid on my part and I could have hurt an innocent person and I thank God that I didnt. I have reframed from that for several years now because of hurting someone (con.

ok Anonymous 5:05 for the last time - the MOTHER of the girl killed was out of the country. The kids decided to have the party ON THEIR OWN. There were no "adults" in charge.

Posted by: J Location: Grimes County on Sep 9, 2008 at 08:37 AM
Well put, RJ.

Posted by: info on Sep 9, 2008 at 08:29 AM
To Anonymous on Sep 8, 2008 at 05:05 PM - the party was at Alex's house - she and her friends had the party while her mother was out of town. There is no one else, except Alex and the other two who died, to blame for this. They made VERY bad decisions that night.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 8, 2008 at 05:05 PM
The people that held the party should be held accountable as well. Can't tell me they didn't know there was no booze there. sure! Whatever! There are more involved and I hope other than the two arrested, there will be more. There should be. The ones at the party that saw their friends drinking should never have allowed them to leave. Racing, well, bad choice and the brother of the deceased girl will have to live with that. Its sad, and KBTX is only reporting the news.

Posted by: RJ Location: Texas on Sep 8, 2008 at 04:57 PM
Beyond all the excuses, blaming the parents, blaming the mother, blaming whatever it be, these kids died b/c of human stupidity. They aren't the first ones to die like this and we all hope and pray they could be the last. People do stupid things and there are consequences, no matter how you break it down. Racing, drinking, speeding, whatever. It comes down to the choices they made and this is the result: a horrible, tragic, and needless death that could've been prevented.

Posted by: KAT Location: CST on Sep 8, 2008 at 02:23 PM
I agree with Kevin..this rumor turned truth has been floating around the comment boards since this happened. My question is how could Wayne Jr. leave the scene knowing that his little sister was involved in a wreck? Had he already driven off by this point? If so why didn't he come back to check on the teens when he realized they hadn't shown back up to the house or whereever? How could he stand by knowing he played a part in his little sister's death and be too selfish to come foward. I don't think that the video needs to be posted on here for the family's sake. Also I seriously doubt there will be a trial even though it's possible. I expect a slap on the wrist with a couple thousand dollar fines. Justice system at it's best!

Posted by: RT Location: CS on Sep 8, 2008 at 11:14 AM
Yes really, you are wrong. Justice of the Peace and Municipal courts hold trials for all sorts of misdemeanors including class C traffic violations. The municipal courts have trials for traffic violations and city ordinance violations as well as whatever else they can dream up. Most of the cases however, never go to trial because the city knows most people are not going to spend much money fighting a $200 fine. They keep their fines just low enough to make it cost prohibitive to hire a competent defense. I like to call it ticket writing for fun and profit. A fine is essentially an extra tax you pay. College Station has mastered the art of milking the tax payers. Bryan is not too far behind them.

Posted by: jan Location: macedonia on Sep 8, 2008 at 11:06 AM
I erred regarding a trial. I stand by thinking KBTX needs to give this a rest.

Posted by: REALLY?? on Sep 8, 2008 at 09:12 AM
Hey, y'all - last time I checked, there were not usually TRIALS and JURIES for misdemeanors. Maybe I'm wrong.

Posted by: Kevin Location: CS on Sep 8, 2008 at 07:52 AM
Amazing that the chat boards on the local news sources had most all the facts now coming to light. Shows you what giving folks a place to share information does for you.

I think faulty brakes played a part in this. Maybe next week kbtx can run that story.FAULTY BRAKES POSSIBLE IN 3 TEENS DEATH>

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 7, 2008 at 05:49 PM
"I am wondering why the brothers car was not pursued and he was not arrested the night his sister was killed." One officer, a car wrecked and on fire with a possibility of rescuing at least one of the victims, or pursuit of a speeder while leaving them to certainly roast...What would YOU do?

Posted by: pay attention Location: bryan on Sep 7, 2008 at 01:34 PM
Jan where did you get the incorrect information that there is going to be a trial? It's a misdemeanor charge. There is no chance these two won't plea out much less take it to a trial.

Posted by: Jv Location: Bryan on Sep 7, 2008 at 11:42 AM
Jan is so right! With as much as has been said about this horrible accident, I can imagine that it may be hard to select a fair and impartial jury.

Posted by: Anon Location: B/CS on Sep 7, 2008 at 10:32 AM
Is this even an update? This should be in the blogs part. This seems like a way to get the police to give up the dash cam video. And why would you even want to see something horrible like that?

Posted by: Anonymous Location: College Station on Sep 7, 2008 at 09:00 AM
I disagree with giving this story a rest. I am wondering why the brothers car was not pursued and he was not arrested the night his sister was killed. I am a parent and can't imagine what these parents are going through but can't help but wonder if this could have been avoided if this boy were behind bars where he obviously belonged. He already had outstanding warrants and a suspended license. KBTX is just reporting the news and new developments in a story.

Posted by: EJ Location: Bryan on Sep 7, 2008 at 08:26 AM
I agree. Give it a rest.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 7, 2008 at 08:12 AM
the parents should should face charge's for child endangerment and each should receive a ticket for the two kids that were under 17 years old for curfew violation. This is far from over for the irresponsible parents and the police should continue their investigation as to why they didn't properly have care custody and control of their kids.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 7, 2008 at 07:50 AM
I don't think a video is necessary here, I don't want to watch the death of three kids repeated on the news over and over and over again.

Posted by: Catherine Location: College Station on Sep 7, 2008 at 06:57 AM
I completely agree with Jan!There's nothing left to be said about this tragic accident that we don't already know, give it a rest until the trial.

Posted by: Guardsman on Sep 7, 2008 at 02:44 AM
The dashcam video should be shown!

Posted by: Mother Location: College Station on Sep 6, 2008 at 09:36 PM
This is just so tragic all the way around! And the sad part is it did not have to happen! Actions have consequences. Sometimes tragic, horrible consequences.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 6, 2008 at 08:32 PM
PLEASE KBTX!!! GIVE THIS STORY A REST ALREADY!!!!!

Posted by: jan Location: macedonia on Sep 6, 2008 at 07:23 PM
can't y'all give this a rest? you have all but martyred the teens( bad behavior and all), and your relentless reporting could sully a jury pool, not to mention the profound hurt the media frenzy causes the families of the dead and the jailed.
