There are multiple injuries reported in a major accident in south Brazos County on Highway 6.

The accident occurred Sunday evening near FM 159, near the fireworks warehouse.

Authorities say in all, five people were taken to the College Station Medical Center, including one by PHI helicopter.

Involved in the partial head-on collision were a sedan and a van. The victims in the Sedan were 18 year old Kamran Adam Hussan of Sugar Land, 16 year old Jennifer Urbina of Sugar Land, 43 year old Mercy Urbina of Sugar Land and 50 year old David Urbina of Sugar Land.

Troopers said Mercy Urbina was in critical condition, David Urbina in serious condition and the other two victims were in good condition.

The driver of the van, 18 year old Alex James Kirk of Katy died at the College Station Medical Center.

The accident's cause is still being investigated, but the undivided stretch of Highway 6 where it occurred has seen its share of fatal accidents.

Traffic on Highway 6 was slowed or stopped for much of the evening as authorities cleared the scene and investigated the accident.

To the Scrogum family - Kim, Lauren and I would like to thank you and your family for you thoughts and support. Our sincere condolences on the loss of Christian and I'm sure they are friends now. We to found the Silver Tap ceremony an intense experience, something that only attendance can convey. We were expecting it to be extremely upsetting, but actually found it such an amazing tribute by the student body it went beyond grief. I'm sure both our families will always remember the expression of mutual respect and honor that both Christian and Alex were shown on Oct 7th 2008 by the Aggie student family. We were sorry that we were not able to spend much time with each other but know only to well what you are both going through. We would have given so much to have met under any other circumstances. I'm sure we will be in touch as we travel our parallel journeys, one I hope most who read this will never have to tread. Our thoughts and love are with you Douglas, Kim & Lauren Kirk

If you can, could Mandy and/or Diane please contact us at rdkirk@edg.net - thank you again.

To the Kirk family: Again, Cindy and I want to express our deepest condolences to you. Both of us fully understand your loss as we are on the same journey. Our families have loss two wonderful young men to similar events. In our case Christian hydroplaned on a rainy day on a tricky section of HWY 71 in Bastrop. He lost control and crossed the narrow median into the path of oncoming semi-trucks. The Lord was merciful and took him home quickly. I read the article about Alex and agree with Karen that our sons would have become friends given the chance to meet. I will always remember Alex when I think of Christian and the special Silver Taps ceremony that we shared. We are going to attend the future Musters at A&M and will see you there. I wish we could have met under happier circumstances. I will keep you in my prayers as I pray every day for the strength and peace of mind to get through the day since I loss my Christian. We will see our sons again. God Bless you all.

To the Kirk Family --- your son and my nephew (Christian Scrogum) were both honored last night (Oct 7) at Texas A&M's Silver Taps ceremony and what a tribute it was. I wanted to express my deepest condolences on your loss. Having read Alex's articles in campus paper www.thebatt.com, it sounds like Alex and Christian had similar interests, characteristics, and attitudes and had they been granted the opportunity and right circumstances, would've become fast friends. From our family to yours, our prayers and support are with you always. I'd also like to extend a huge "thank you" to Texas A&M University, the Corp, the Tradition Council, and to all the Aggie student body for your rich, time-honored tradition of Silver Taps. The turn-out for the ceremony was overwhelming. Words cannot express our gratitude for your commitment to respect your fellow, departed Aggie.

I want to thank everyone for their kind comments towards our son Alex. We have lost a wonderful son and human being who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We want to especially thank Mandy and Diane for being with Alex when he most needed help and know that he will have gained great comfort from your presence. We cannot thank you enough. We were sorry not to have met you at Alex's memorial service. Alex's loss is an enormous blow to us all but we are pleased that the others invovled in the accident are now out of hospital and on their way to recovery. Alex would never have wanted to harm anyone else. I would like to update the seat belt issue, thanks to the support of some exceptional friends we were able to obtain photographs of the seat belt, post crash. The police have the photo's and have now accepted that Alex was wearing his belt at the time of the crash but the belt webbing material failed. The police report will reflect this when issued. Alex is now at peace.

My name is Alisha and I just wanted to say that Alex was one of the best guy friends I could ever had asked for. My friend and I hung out with him on a daily basis and I just want to thank Mandy for holding his hand, when so many wish they could have. You know, the people taken from this world are always the best ones. Alex was amazing, to say the least. I will forever love and miss him. The memorial service is at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Katy at 11am. I pray that Hurricane Ike does not interfere because I will be there regardless. I know Alex is upstairs looking down on us all with a huge grin that never leaves his face knowing that this is not goodbye, but simply "see you later."

It's so weird to hear Alex referred to as a man.I knew him before he was that. He sat behind me every day last year in AP Eco, he came to see every one of my school plays. He was not careless and he was not wreckless. He was a genuine person, smart as a whip, and endlessly kind. I just wanted to thank mandy so much, for being there when we could not.

Mandy, it is so good to know some one was with alex and comforting him in his last time here on earth. I'm one of alex's best friends from the UK and we are all devastated for our loss. It's good to know there are people like you in this world that care so much for someone you didn't know. Thank you, truley. And my love goes out to the second family in the crash, may you all recover fully. all my love Robyn UK

Mandy, Thank you for your compassion and letting us know that someone was with Alex in his last moments. Alex was the long-time boyfriend of my daughter and he was a fine young man. This loss is a tragic one for Alex's family and his many friends. Alex spent many hours with my family and we will cherish the time we had with him. He was only two weeks into his college career at A&M when the accident occurred. He had gone home to visit his family for the weekend and was returning to school. There will be a memorial for him in Katy on September 13 at 11 am. I am presently unclear on the exact location of the memorial, but will try to ensure that it is posted on this website. From some of the comments on this site, it appears that some of the crash vicitms may not have been wearing seatbelts. Alex was in fact wearing his seatbelt. Unfortunately, that was not sufficient to save his life. Thank your for your prayers. We solicit them from everyone on behalf of the Kirk family.

Indeed this morning I met a driver who had a very young child sitting in his lap driving down the highway.... I was blown away. I really thought people were a little more concerned at least for their kids' safety! !! Unbelievable!

Why do we have lawas if they are not truly enforced? This law has been on the books for many, many years, and still I see people and children of all ages without seat belts. This law is there to protect lives. What are you people thinking? How many of you have had a child thrown about your vehicle when you have had to brake suddenly? Enforce the law or take it off the books!!!!!!!!!!

you should check with the police departments and sheriffs office records divisions for crime stats

Michael Go to the Brazos County website and you can find all that out yourself

What is the existing KBTX policy on giving the race of those arrested for crimes in Brazos County? I'm doing a survey on the percentages of crimes committed by individuals of various backgrounds. Thanks, Michael C.
