Lightning Causes Robertson County Explosion

Firefighters from seven Robertson County departments and three departments in other counties spent Sunday afternoon fighting a tank explosion north of Franklin.

It happened on F.M. 979 about six miles north of Franklin, near F.M. 2293.

Authorities say a lightning strike was to blame, causing seven saltwater tanks to catch fire and explode.

The tanks were at a facility owned by a EnCana Oil and Gas.

Authorities say the blast was powerful enough to scatter debris about 100 yards.

One problem firefighters had was letting the storm pass before they could battle the fire.

The explosion happened shortly after noon. The fire was out in about three hours.

No evacuations were necessary and no injuries were reported.
