A former Waco police officer has pleaded guilty to a child pornography charge.
Amador Gonzalez Junior pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court to one count of possession of visual depictions of sexual activity by minors.
FBI agents searching Gonzalez's home in February turned up computer storage equipment with more than 600 images of child pornography. The 44-year-old later admitted that he had downloaded and possessed the images, according to court records.
Defense lawyer Bill Johnston says his client's conviction represents only a snapshot of a life that was largely dedicated to law enforcement. Gonzalez served more than 20 years on the Waco police force. He resigned the day after his home was searched.
In exchange for his plea, prosecutors agreed not to pursue other charges stemming from the federal investigation.
Gonzalez faces up to ten years in prison and a fine up to 250-thousand dollars. Sentencing is set for July.
