For the second day in a row, outage-weary residents in Madison County got to enjoy delicious, hot meals Thursday from some pretty special strangers.

Members of an Oklahoma-based disaster relief team from the Southern Baptist Convention have set up shop at First Baptist Madisonville where they're cooking up food for those in need. They're providing lunch and dinner for residents in Madisonville, Midway and North Zulch.

"We come prepared to serve," said Gene Presley, SBC Disaster Relief Team. "We feel like that's what our Lord and Saviour did. He gives us a command to do that and we just feel called to do that"

Even with power restored to much of Madison County, the group plans to keep cooking as long as its needed. "It's a blessing," Presley said. "I mean we just get such a good feeling from helping people. It's fantastic."

My daughter is on the VFD in N.Z.and I went with her saturday the 20th. to pick up the hot meals for our community and it was over whelming to see the oklahoma-based disaster relief team from the SBC cooking the food and getting it ready for everyone, all without one frown, all we could do is cry . I'm so proud of her and all the others that have been there at the station and that has spent many hours there helping all they could .Thank you all and thank you SBC disaster relief team. This is my second time to evacuate to Bedias from Galveston as a result of Hurricanes Rita and Ike. Both times this community has taken me in as one of their own. It is a credit to this community that they not only care for each other by providing needed services to those in need but also making me feel welcome. Thank you to each and every one of you.

The community of Bedias really got into the spirit of helping one another by having the City of Bedias and the Bedias Civic Assoc. cooking and feeding between 200 and 300 people for the last 4 nights. Also recieving credit for feeding us last night was the Southern Paptist Convention Disaster Relief Team. Our Constable, Dale Scharper, went above and beyond his duties by attending to the needs throughout Bedias as well as other parts of the county. And thanks to the Bedias Voluntary Fire Department for handing out ice and water, as well as food to those in need. We are truely blessed.

What a wonderful wonderful organization. I had the honor of serving in the Wal-Mart parking lost last night and let me tell you - it was one of the most uplifting experiences of my life. To see the weary and hungry smile when they received the hot food and cereals (crackers) for their families was so rewarding.
