Summer Jobs

It's not just for i-Pods or a week at the beach. A poll by Junior Achievement finds nearly 36 percent of teens say saving for college is the number-one reason for holding a summer job.

Extra spending money was tops in prior polls but drops to second this year at 28 percent.

That kids are working to save for their education should come as no surprise. The Department of Education reports that since 1993 the cost of attending a public college is up 28 percent, while private college costs have risen 25 percent.
