Texas A&M's largest student loan provider has lost personal information of more than a million of its borrowers. Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation, based in Round Rock, is scrambling to send letters to those affected, including some in the Brazos Valley.

Bridgette Ingram could be affected by a huge mishap by one of the state's largest student loan providers.

"I'm worried, and nervous, you know to find out," Ingram said. "I Just will double check my credit and make sure nothing has happened to it."

Ingram, now the assistant director of loans at Texas A&M, has her student loan through Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation. The company has lost personal information, including social security numbers and names of one-point-three million of it's borrowers.

"We don't have any indication that any information has been compromised at this point it's simply on a piece of equipment that is lost at this point and has not been recovered," Kristin Boyer with Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation said.

The company is the main student loan corporation used by Texas A&M. In any given year one out of every three students has a student loan.

"We've had a long lasting relationship with TG and we know they're going to be very diligent in finding out the information and getting it to the students," Ingram said.

TG says there is no evidence that the information has been misused or that it was lost on purpose.

"We don't have any indication at this point that there's any malice or any intent to use this information for malicious purposes," Boyer said.

The company is now scrambling to find out who is affected. They've started sending letters and hope to notify everyone in the next couple of weeks.
As for local students, Ingram says they're concerned.

"I think its just mainly nerves, wondering if the information will be used in a bad way," Ingram said.

TG says the equipment is still missing.

The company is providing a toll free information line open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The number is 1-800-530-0626.

They also recommend contacting a credit reporting agency for more information about protecting their credit.
