The attorney for a wealthy Dallas-area woman accused of kidnapping a seven-week-old baby in Los Angeles says his client was actually adopting the boy.
Attorney Scottie Allen says the boy's teenage mother, Dominique Calloway, agreed to let him go. He says Annette Pinkard had Calloway
sign a form relinquishing her parental rights.
Allen says Pinkard was "scared to death" when she learned about the kidnapping investigation while driving back to Texas with Devon Colloway.
But police say Pinkard stole the boy with her cousin's help after Dominique Calloway rejected her offer to buy him.
Pinkard and her cousin, Sylvia Nunn, are being held in Ellis County Jail in Waxahachie, Texas, on 500-thousand dollars' bond each and face extradition to California. The two were arrested the the baby taken into custody in Midlothian, about 25 miles southwest of Dallas.
Prosecutors say they're charged with one count each of kidnapping and child stealing.
