An acquaintance of a woman accused of kidnapping an Lubbock newborn after posing as a nurse says she was skeptical when the woman said she'd just given birth.
Kloma Clark manages the mobile home park where 33-year-old Stephanie Jones lives. She says Jones told her Friday that she was a new mother.
Jones was arraigned Tuesday on charges of kidnapping and abandoning a child, one day after Priscilla Nicole Maldonado was found in a car seat beneath a condo carport in 104-degree heat.
Jones is accused of taking the infant from the distracted mother at the family's home Sunday. Jones is still in the Lubbock County Jail with bail set at 150-thousand dollars.
The baby, who turns a week old today, remains in stable condition at Lubbock's University Medical Center. She was born with jaundice, a common complication a hospital spokesman says is easily treatable.
