A 3-year-old boy died early Saturday morning after a fire completely engulfed his family’s mobile home, Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office said Saturday in a press release.

Just after 1 a.m. on Saturday, a fire erupted at a mobile home located at the 19000 block of Todd Road just west of Magnolia, the release stated. Family and neighbors tried to reach the child, Dakota Myers, who was still in the home when the fire started, but were unsuccessful due to the heavy smoke and fire conditions.

Firefighters arrived shortly after, but were unable to reach the boy due to the heavy fire conditions, the release stated.

Firefighters brought the fire under control and found the child in a back room, the release stated.

Ambulances from Montgomery County Hospital District EMS responded to the scene and treated Dakota’s 10-year-old brother and mother for smoke inhalation, the release stated.

Investigators said that the children's mother had gone next door to visit neighbors after the children went to sleep.

The 10-year-old was sleeping when he awoke to find fire in the area where Dakota had been sleeping.

The fire engulfed the home, destroying the home and all its contents, the release stated.

Investigators said that although it is too early in the investigation to determine the cause of the fire, it appears that the home was not equipped with any working smoke detectors.
