CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Nueces County sheriff says three of his jailers have quit after an investigation shows they were smuggling synthetic marijuana to inmates at the jail in Corpus Christi.
Sheriff Jim Kaelin says the trio resigned after his department received a tip about the operation. Investigators reviewed surveillance video and then interviewed the deputies. He says they acknowledged their participation.
Kaelin didn't identify them but said they had no previous record of misconduct. None of the contraband was recovered.
The sheriff tells the Corpus Christi Caller-Times (http://bit.ly/16cyS4M ) a criminal investigation is continuing but the confessions obtained in the administrative process can't be used against the ex-jailers.
