Local political parties on both sides of the aisle are spending time and money to replace stolen signs.

Brazos County republicans say they've had around 15 people come into their party headquarters this week, trying to replace stolen signs.

Down the road, Brazos County democrats have a few extra signs at their headquarters.

"Someone has written on the top of it, 'for every sign stolen I'm going to donate $100 to the cause'," said Brazos County Democratic Party Chairperson Maggie Charleton of a stolen sign she recovered.

Signs like that one were taken from yards earlier this week, and moved to a College Station yard as a prank.

"It was seriously a lot of signs. They were all like up in our chairs like in each one, set in each one so that people could see right away when they pulled up," said Ryan Byrne.

Byrne lives with five other college roommates, one of whom is a staunch conservative.

"The joke was on him and we all had a good laugh about it," said Byrne.

He and his roommates have a new McCain/ Palin sign now.

Brent Vinson has a new one too. His signs were stolen the same night of the prank.

"This actually is one I got back from the democratic office. Someone called 'em and had thrown a whole bunch of them in the yard and they picked 'em up," said Vinson.

He says it's the third time his signs have been stolen recently.

"Right now I'm taking them up at night," said Vinson.

As for the bigger ones, Vinson says he'll just make those harder to steal.

"It was a sheet metal stake. Should have got a heavier stake. It will be next time," said Vinson.

People in the County Democrat office, have another idea: Vasoline.

"Front and back and up and down the stakes so people can't get ahold of them to pull them up," said Charleton.

A trick up the sleeve, for when politics gets dirty.

"You can take our signs. You're not going to keep us from voting," said Charleton.

College Station Police say they've received several reports of stolen signs, including nine this week.

Police in Bryan say they've only had one the entire month, and three in September.

all of us have juvenile feelings when we see a political sign of those we do not like. As said before, run them over, maybe take them, I saw one that was spray painted. BUT WE SHOULD BE GROWN UP. I certainly would not go on someone elses property and destroy something that was not mine.

It's not that republicans arent popular, it's the fact that democrats engage in sleazy and classless acts to get elected.

"i promise, it won't be the end of the world, or of usa." Nah, just the Constitution once Obama appoints 3 more Supremes who follow the "living document" philosophy: The Constitution doesn't mean what the words SAY, it means what *WE* the activist judges think it OUGHT to say...

Hey, what about the opposite problem? Somebody PUT Obama Biden signs in every front yard on my street in the middle of the night last week. And while that may show a lot of support for your favorite candidate, it doesn't add mine. I heard the big Zero has money to burn, and I guess sticking up signs in the yards of everybody who MIGHT support him counts as a worthwhile expenditure of the record amounts he's collected, especially after his local supporters then demonize any homeowners who take them down.

Vaseline! Why didn't I think of that? Of course! You're a genius! Put vaseline on your car door handles so they can't steal your car, too! Boy I'm going to sleep good tonight.

Someone took the Turner sign out of my yard.

Posted by: Ticked Location: Bryan on Oct 12, 2008 at 09:22 AM
My sign wasnt stolen just destroyed. It was fine that morning and that afternoon someone had pulled it off the stake and bent it up and broke the stake, then left it laying in my yard. Here I thought night was all I had to be careful of....

Dude dont you think you need to tone it down just alittle? Or has being a PFC gone to your head? I walked into your yard today and you did nothing. You are probably voting for Hussein aren't you?

seems republicans are not so popular if so many signs are ripped off. we can only hope for obama to take texas in his landslide. i promise, it won't be the end of the world, or of usa. if it survives what bush did to it... think about it. well, i expect obama to become america's greatest president; truly and honestly. flat5263@yahoo.com

I had a naughty thought the other day... I saw a row of Obama signs and felt like running over the whole row of them! I wouldn't do it though, because I won't disrespect another person's property and I've grown up now.

HEY!spelling, what the heck are you talking about?????

Dear Ryan, I'd like to, like, have, like, better grades. But when I, like, talk in the classroom, I, like, say a lot of, like, things that my, like, teacher and my, like, classmates don't find, like, convincing. Is it, like, because I, like, say 'like' so much? __Don't sound stupid. Stop saying like!!__ I, like, don't want, like, people to, like, make fun of, like, me.

there is a simple solution, just outlaw any and all politcal signs.

Posted by: Tony Location: CS on Oct 11, 2008 at 08:50 AM
That should be "aisle", not "isle". Use a dictionary, just not spell check!

Someone felt it was right to come on my property the other night and steal my Obama sign. Thanks for your respect of my political views.

Posted by: Lisa Location: College Station on Oct 11, 2008 at 07:30 AM
My McCain-Palin sign was stolen out of my yard. I guess these people don't realize that some of us actually paid for these signs. I went to the Republican Party and asked for a replacement...we will see how long this one lasts!

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 11, 2008 at 07:17 AM
I wait till AFTER the election to "steal" the signs; it seems that the political parties (BOTH of them) are real big on putting them out, but have no interest in picking them up afterward. But the old signs do make good target holders for patterning shotguns irrespective of who's name is on them...

If someone enters my property for any reason I will consider it a threat and act accordingly to defend my family with any force necessary

HOW JR. HIGH. I vote, i put up signs, and take them down accordingly. It is a shame we have those policial signs up all over town. That money could be used more wisely. If folks don't know who to vote for by now, maybe they should not vote at all. After the elections, they are torn, weather beaten and still up. Yet, because of PLANNED PARENTHOOD, most informative and supportive signs that could be used year around, cannot be displayed. Those signs could actually save lives here in our community. Some people have really lost sight of what is important in life.

"...on both sides of the isle..." Umm...is this Galveston Island you're talking about, or would that be an "AISLE"???

Posted by: Kyle Location: Bryan on Oct 10, 2008 at 10:59 PM
I seem to recall seeing this same story during every Presidential election. Most of the stolen signs are being taken by college students who think its funny. I'm more interested in who put an Obama sign in my yard without my permission. No one in my area know who I will vote for, so I doubt it was done as a joke. I wouldn't dare put a McCain sign in my yard, less my house or truck be the target of vandalism.
