We all know the cost of living has gone up this year.
And unless your paycheck has gone up to match, you're feeling the pinch.
So News Three has come up with some cost cutting tips designed to save you money.

Unplug Your Energy Suckers:
Those are the ones with remote controls and clocks.
While they maybe turned off, they're still draining your pocket book. These include microwaves, coffee pots, DVD's, and TV's.
You can probably find a bunch more in your house.

Stick A Brick In It:
Stick a Brick in your toilet tank.
That will turn it into an instant low flow commode.

Cold Water Wash:
Wash all of your clothes in cold water.
Save 50% of what you would have used with a hot wash.

Shaggy Cuts:
Raise the blade on your mower.
Longer grass holds more moisture which equals less lawn watering.

Hotter-Colder:
During the summer months, keep your house two degrees warmer.
In the winter, keep it two degrees colder.
At the end of the year, you'll save $200.

Although each tip is small -- added together over the course of the year -- you could save hundreds of dollars from your utility bill.

We found most of these tips from a little book called Fill Your Toolbox: Low Cost Living In the Brazos Valley.

It's through the United Way, and there are literally dozens and dozens of ideas for you to use.

You can get one of your own by calling the United Way at 211.

Just buy less stuff. Its amazing all the useless stuff people buy, especially at Christmas time

You could also turn the temperature down on the hot water heater. It only needs to run when you need hot water, not while you are at work.

"Unplug Your Energy Suckers: Those are the ones with remote controls and clocks. While they maybe turned off, they're still draining your pocket book. These include microwaves, coffee pots, DVD's, and TV's." Another thing to consider is REPLACING anything that isn't Energy Star compliant; a lot of the star rated stuff has "off power" below 100 mW, which is under $0.50 per year, and that's not worth the flashing 12:00 you get by unplugging it. And, while you may like the way the controls work on that 20 year Old Sylvannia "instant on" tv or RCA VCR, a new digital ready LCD tv and DVD/rw burner use less power when they're ON than those old clunkers do when they are off...and February 19 IS coming. Unfortunately, they haven't figured out how to cut the power on the coffee pot and microwave yet. And BTW, where's the tip to put in compact flourescents EVERYWHERE? Now that the candelabra bases and 3 ways are available, there's almost no excuse for buying "standard" light bulbs.

Use a clothes line for drying clothes. Open your windows during the cool nights.
