Highway 40 will open Friday.
There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 AM just past the east construction barricades off Highway 6. Everyone's invited and TxDOT and local officials will be on hand to discuss the new road.
The $6.9 million construction project began in April 2004. The project was originally scheduled to be completed in January, but TxDOT and contractors were delayed due to material shortages.
Also notable with the road was a recent contest held by the city of College Station allowing residents input on naming the road. In the end, the council decided on William Fitch, known for his work in developing the south side of town. Fitch was among the highest vote-getters in the contest.
