Hurricane season is here and local disaster relief volunteers are already preparing for a busy year. Several volunteers and officials received training Thursday night at the Red Cross in Bryan.
They were trained in shelter operating procedures and quality service. Bryan College Station is a designated evacuation site for residents of the Texas coastline so being ready and organized is key.
" The primary focus of this training is to take people in, introduce them to how the Red Cross sets up, operates, maintains, and closes down the shelter and the various jobs that need to be taken care of," said Aaron Thompson, a Red Cross National Disaster Instructor.
There will be other shelter training sessions next month. Contact the Red Cross at 776-8279 for more information.
