Preparations are underway for July 4 celebrations. Monday, The George Bush Presidential Library was busy preparing for their seventh annual celebration. The library will host the Lions Club International annual Celebration, "I Love America." Several other celebrations are scheduled for Tuesday.
The tents are going up, the stage is set, and the flags are hung high at the George Bush Presidential Library.
"I can't imagine a better backdrop for a 4th of July celebration than a presidential library where folks can come out and learn about the history of our country and the history of the American presidency," Brian Blake with the library said.
The Museum will open at 9:30 Tuesday and stay open until 8. And there will be free admission.
"We encourage people to come early, get a good seat, bring their picnic basket and just really enjoy the day," Blake said.
And when the sun goes down, music will fill the air and fireworks will hit the sky even if it rains.
"Once they're set we're going to fire them off so we may have to wait a little later in the evening, but we'll definitely have fireworks once they're set, we're ready to go," Blake said.
This is the 46th year for this community event. Costumed characters such as George and Martha Washington, Abe Lincoln, and Benjamin Franklin, along with many others will be mingling with the crowd to pose for photographs and answer questions about their distinguished careers. The concession stands will open at 5 p.m. The live entertainment and games for the children will all begin at 5:30 p.m.
Spectators should park in Research Park. If it rains, parking will be moved to Reed Arena and the new parking garage, then A&M shuttles will bus folks to the library.
