A motorist traveling on Highway 21 in Brazos County witnessed quite a scene Tuesday afternoon. A storage tank at an oil field was struck by lightning and blown 75 feet away.
A passerby called 911 and Precinct 4 fire fighters responded to the scene. There was no fire and no one was injured, but there was a fluid leaking from the tank, which was later determined to be saltwater. Mission Resources, the company that owns the oil field, is cleaning up.
Power outrages plagued parts of Burleson County Tuesday. Snook was without electricity for about 30 minutes due to lightning interrupting equipment. Parts of Caldwell also lost power for several hours.
