A local company is thrown a curve ball in its effort to bring a baseball team to Bryan. Infinity Pro Sports asked to use Travis Baseball Field in Bryan for a franchise summer collegiate baseball team.
The collegiate team would be based in Bryan and governed by NCAA rules. Only college freshman and sophomores would be eligible for the team. The problem is Travis field is already frequently being used for Little League.
" What we're having to look at is if the team comes in what happens to the other teams that are currently using it, so we're going to have to explore possibly other fields that can be used and making sure the current users get accommodated," said David Schmitz with Bryan's Parks and Recreation Department.
Uri Geza with Infinity Pro Sports says the franchise baseball team would only play 24 games at Travis Field and most games would be on the weekend. He says this shouldn't conflict too much with the Little League schedule.
Geza also says investors could help with improvements to the field which could be beneficial for everyone. City staff is recommending an option that would not require additional funding from the city.
Many city council members support a baseball team coming to town but not at the inconvenience of current field users. Once the city explores its other options it has until October 1 to make a decision.
