A&M Consolidated High School students will don caps Thursday in honor of their fallen classmate.
Wednesday, art students spent the day creating handmade hats in honor of Tara Lewis, the 16-year-old student who died in an accident on Barron Road a week earlier.
Thursday, the students will sell the caps to their peers for $2 each, with all the proceeds going towards the college education of Lewis' siblings.
"I just know that they're (Lewis' siblings) going to see that as something to work toward so that there will be something for them after high school to make their sister proud," said Randi Costenbader, who taught Lewis over two school years.
Student club presidents came together with the idea of selling the caps, which is becoming common in schools that have suffered the loss of a student.
"Since hats are not in our dress code, everyone seems to like the idea of being able to wear a hat at school," said Katie Smith, the Consol student body president.
Ribbons will also be handed out by the school's student clubs to remember Lewis.
