Police say they did not take the photo of Ashley Todd that is gaining internet notoriety. The photo depicts a 20-something female with bruises under her eyes, and a red "B" on the right side of her face.

Todd claims she was withdrawing money Wednesday night at a Pennsylvania ATM, when a man put a knife to her throat and demanded money.

Todd told Pittsburgh police that she gave the robber $60. She says the man then noticed her McCain bumper sticker, punched her in the back of the head, knocked her down, and carved a "B" in the side of her face.

On her blog, Ashley Todd says she is Texas A&M student working as a New York field representative for the College Republicans.

Thursday night Aggies were shocked at the news.

"Especially for an Aggie, that's not ok with me," said student Rebecca Halbert. "I'm speaking for all the Aggies, we're not going to tolerate that."

While many people expressed sympathy online, just as many were voicing doubt about Todd's story.

Pittsburgh Police say Todd refused medical treatment. A MySpace page linked to a 23-year-old Ashley Todd of College Station says "lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off."

"If it's a hoax then that's really desperate, but I really don't think that it is," said Halbert.

"Why would anyone do that," asked another student.

Whatever happened Wednesday night was out of view of the ATM's surveillance cameras. Which means for now there are more questions than answers.

Pittsburg Police say the suspect is a 6'4" black man, weighing 200 lbs.

Ashley Todd is a member of the Brazos County Young Republicans. The group's president would not comment.

News 3 spoke with a representative of the McCain campaign who said both Sara Palin and John McCain called Todd Thursday to check on her.

Update:

Inconsistencies have arisen in the case and Todd now says she was sexually assaulted and is not sure if her alleged attacker saw a McCain bumper sticker or a McCain button that she was wearing. Texas A&M officials say Todd has never been enrolled at the university.

Talk about brainwashing. Do some research for yourselves if you think my comments are not factual, based on "the chosen one's" own words in print and soundbites. One thing I have to admit about Obama is that he is very clear about his socialist/Marxist ideals. For ex.he has said that "redistribution of wealth is good for everybody" and that he "doesn't want his teenage girls punished with a baby." The truth hurts, no matter which candidate you're talking about. If you choose to side with Hamas, Chavez, Putin, Odinga and other foreign America haters in endorsing Obama - that's your choice. Problem is, we will all have to live with it if he wins.

If this story hurts or helps either candidate, it only proves how shallow voters are. Which candidate is pro-abortion? While I sincerely hope this is not the case,there seems to me to be quite a few discrepancies in the story; not the least of which is why the "B" is backwards (which if one were looking in the mirror would look correct)why someone who just committed a robbery would take the time to carefully carve such a letter instead of say, an "O" which would be much easier; why she refused medical treatment, why the police were not called from the actual scene, why there are discrepancies verified by bank officials as to the time she allegedly withdrew the money. Like I said, I hope this is not a case of fraud on her part but desperation can and often does make already unstable people do illogical things.

That superficial abrasion looks gently applied, and she would have to have remained completely still during the episode. Keep the public updated on this one! I smell a lie! Look at the eye, have you ever been punched by a 6'4" 200# man...you would look much worse my friends. I live in this area, and I just drove down this street approx 9pm. Very, very crowded! Plus...The gigantic West Penn Hospital is right there 2 blocks away on the same, busy, street and she didn't bother to get treatment. The is B is backwards! Unless you are looking into a mirror and etching it on yourself! This will be exposed as a scam. I work in an ED and witness many "cuts." That superficial abrasion looks gently applied, and she would have to have remained completely still during the episode. Keep the public updated on this one! I smell a lie! Look at the eye, have you ever been punched by a 6'4" 200# man...you would look much worse my friends. I live in this area, and I just drove down this street approx 9pm. Very, very crowded! Give the cops a chance to review the all of the security cameras and lie-detect this chick!

Her story doesn't add up. If it is true, my heart goes out to her. However, she didn't go to the hospital after having her face carved up? Really?.. Hmmmm... And notice.. The "B" is backwards on her face. When someone is writing a "B" it is unlikely they would write a backwards "B"... unless of coarse it is drawn while seeing your own reflection in a mirror.

This story is strange! It would take too much time to make a backwards “B” like that right after “robbing" someone at knife point on the street. And why did she turn down medical treatment when offered? If this is a hoax...you do not represent Texas or A&M well.

The media should be aware that this young girl that claims that she is an A&M student is, in fact, not. Nor has she ever been admitted to Texas A&M. Although it has very little to do with the story as a whole, it is yet another testimony to the lack of truth in her story.

I extend sympathy to the victim and her family and am glad she survived. Maybe the thug misunderstood when Obama told his supporters to get in the faces of the opposition. But brutality has always been the weapon of dictators whether they be marxist or fascist which are two sides of the same coin.

I would say this behavior is very characteristic of many Barrack Husein Obama supporters. After all, you are talking about a man that hangs out with terrorist Bill Ayers and attended Jeremiah "KKK" Wright's church for 20 years. I would expect violent thugs to support his bid for the white house. This should come as no surprise to anyone. Hopefully, the victim will be OK.

This account is actually being reported on Drudge; however, there is skepticism. How would she know that he saw her McCain sticker? How would a mugger be able to hold a struggling victim so still as to carve a B into her face? By the way, the B was carved backwards on her face, as if done in a mirror. And, why wouldn't she seek medical attention? Just sayin'
