Testimony has begun in the murder trial of a Bryan man accused of stabbing an elderly man and beating the victim's wife.

20-year-old Michael Anthony Lopez is charged with murder and two counts of burglary of a habitation.

During opening statements this afternoon, prosecutors set the stage for the case against Lopez, while the defense chose not to make a statement.

Lopez is accused of stabbing 62-year-old Estainslado Reyes to death in June of last year.

Police say Lopez and two accomplices attacked Reyes wife in front of their home.

They say Mr. Reyes ran to a convenience store to call police, and that's where he was stabbed.

If convicted, Lopez could get up to life in prison.

The trial will continue Wednesday morning.

Jury selection has been rescheduled for a Bryan man charged with stabbing another man and beating the victim's wife. Not enough potential jurors showed up Monday morning, so jury selection has been rescheduled for Tuesday.
