Leadership for the embattled Brazos Animal Shelter has started to take shape. Monday night the new board named an interim director, and filled the leadership positions on the board.
Effective Tuesday, Carolyn Berrow will become the temporary executive director of the the shelter. She'll take over duties left behind when the former director, Kelley Durham, resigned. Durham's resignation was official last week. Berrow has experience with the shelter. According to board member Shane Phelps, Berrow worked under former animal shelter director, Cathy Bice, for about five years. Berrow is slated to work part-time, about 25 hours a week, but the board is willing to compensate her if more time is needed for the job.
Shane Phelps, Brazos County Assistant District Attorney, was named President of the new board. A loan officer with First National Bank, Stacy Crowder, was named Vice President. And in the role of Secretary/Treasurer will be Laura Bostrom. She is a professor for the MBA program at Texas A&M University.
Phelps says, overall Monday night's meeting was "sucessful" and he feels all parties involved couldn't be happier about the changes. He says the new board's top priority will be to find a permanent executive director. They are also awaiting documents from the Governor's office so they may be declared the official board of the shelter. Currently the new board is acting through the old board to make the necessary decisions. The paperwork is just a formality but a necessary one and is expected this week.
