The 1983 Kentucky Derby winner has returned to Churchill Downs after 23 years to be reburied.
Sunny's Halo died in 2003 and was buried in Bullard, Texas, at the home of owner Billy Hanna. When the thoroughbred's burial site was sold to real estate developers, concerned fans began a crusade to have the horse moved to Churchill Downs as a final resting place.
The horse's remains were exhumed and cremated by Live Oaks Pet Services of Anderson.
A brief ceremony honoring the horse was held at the museum Saturday, and he now rests near the finish line he crossed 23 years ago.
