A nine-year-old East Texas boy has died of injuries suffered when a drill allegedly thrown by his stepfather pierced his chest.
Ruben Mata of Longview died Sunday at a Dallas hospital after he was hurt July 24th. Longview police say the boy caught the cordless drill thrown by Fredrico Garcia in the family's backyard, but the drill bit pierced his chest.
Police continue to search for the 30-year-old stepdad, who's been charged with aggravated assault. A Longview police spokesman says the charge was filed before Ruben died and will be reviewed.
Police say Garcia was dismantling old refrigerators in the family's backyard when the boy was hurt.
