Police say a suspected burglar could be responsible for at least 65 burglaries this year in Central Texas.
Anthony James Perez is accused of scouting empty homes by going door-to-door in medical scrubs. Austin police said yesterday the 42-year-old has been charged with four felony counts of burglary of a habitation.
Perez is suspected in burglaries reported in Austin, Hays County and Fayette County this year.
Police say Perez would systematically approach homes. If someone answered, he would ask if a doctor lived there. If nobody answered,
he would break in.
Perez was being held yesterday at the Travis County Jail on 275-thousand dollars bail. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison on each of the four counts.
