A one vehicle accident in College Station turned deadly Friday evening.
Police say the crash happened around 6 p.m. on Highway 6 at University Drive.
Police say Dennis C. Shelly, 53, of Lubbock, was southbound on Highway 6 when he swerved off the roadway and hit the concrete support under the bridge near University Drive.
His vehicle caught fire and rescue crews had to cut Shelly out of the car. Police say he was not burned.
Shelly was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say traffic was backed up for a few hours, because of the accident.
The crash is under investigation.
