Jeffrey Frank Grimsinger is held without bond in the Victoria County jail on a capital murder charge.
The Chronicle reports Grimsinger is the son of Blackwell's former boyfriend, 57-year-old Michael Grimsinger.
The older man told the newspaper, quote: "It's my son. I don't get it. I just don't get it."
Sheriff Michael O'Connor says DNA evidence linked the younger Grimsinger to the crime. Further details weren't immediately released.
Jeffrey Grimsinger has misdemeanor convictions for marijuana possession and resisting arrest from unrelated incidents in 2001.
