Several thousand people lined up today for their chance to audition and hopefully make it on the TV show "American Idol."
The Alamodome is the site of the preliminary event for the popular Fox TV singing competition.
All participants had to register in advance. Organizers say there's no guarantee that everyone who registered will get the chance to audition in San Antonio -- time permitting.
San Antonio is one of seven US cities -- and the only stop in Texas -- for American Idol auditions for the show's sixth season.
Contestants need to be from 16 to 28 years old and eligible to work in the US. Other restrictions apply.
The winner of season one -- Kelly Clarkson of Burleson -- went on to win two Grammys.
