A barn full of hay provided the perfect fuel for an inferno that kept volunteers busy throughout Friday evening.
The fire happened broke out shortly before 8pm in a hay barn off FM 244 on County Road 121. The building was packed with several hundred dollars worth of round bales. Once engulfed the burning hay created a column of smoke that could be seen for miles.
The fire's intensity left fire fighters with few options other than to make sure it didn't spread. Several tanker trucks joined the battle that finally ended around 9:30pm.
No word on the cause of the fire.
