Fast driving on an icy bridge caused a three car accident Monday morning that sent a young girl to the hospital, according to DPS.
The accident happened around 6:15 a.m. on Highway 21 near Wixon Valley.
State troopers say a Ford F-150 pickup truck crossed the icy bridge, lost control and flipped, landing on its top.
As the driver and three 12-year-old passengers were trying to get out of the truck, a second car slid on the bridge and hit one of the girls.
Gabriella Simmons, 12, was taken to St. Joseph Regional Health Center where she was treated and released.
Authorities said bystander, Jimmy Parker, managed to get the other girls out of the car's path.
Then a third vehicle slid off the road, flipped over the guardrail and landed on its top.
No one else was injured in the accident.

BridgesCAN'T BE SANDED BEFORE IT RAINS OR SLEETS! If you sand them too early, ahead of the freeze the rain and sleet will ice over WORSE than if they were not sanded. Just SLOW DOWN! NO, that's doesn't mean to slow down to 60. That means to slow down enough for existing road conditions, like ICE!
