A Huntsville woman is dead following a head-on collision Monday evening on Highway 30.
According to Department of Public Safety officials, Kelli Wakefield, 37, was headed east on Highway 30 in a Saturn, when she crossed over the center line and struck an 18-wheeler traveling west.
The accident happened just after 5:15 p.m. about three miles east of Shiro in Grimes County.
Wakefield was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say she was wearing her seat belt.
According to DPS, the driver of the 18-wheeler was Clayton Mitchum, an inmate at the Wynn Unit in Huntsville.
TDCJ representatives conducted their own investigation, in cooperation with DPS and the Grimes County Sheriff's Office.
The truck was hauling grain at the time of the accident and was reported to be fully loaded.
Mitchum was not injured.
