A woman from Mexico is accused of trying to smuggle half-a (M) million dollars worth of heroin into Texas -- in her girdle.
The pedestrian faces an initial court appearance today in Laredo on charges of federal narcotics importation and possession.
Customs officials say the woman had about eleven pounds of brown heroin on her when she was stopped Monday at Laredo's Gateway to
the Americas Bridge.
Authorities noticed something didn't seem right about the clothing worn by the 51-year-old woman from Santa Catarina, Mexico.
Officers discovered girdles with a powdery substance sewn inside. The underclothing was strapped to the woman's waist, thighs and calf area.
The overall value of the seized heroin has been put at 535-thousand dollars.
