College Station Girl Dies From Unknown Illness

A College Station intermediate school is grieving the loss of one of their students, who died over the weekend due to an unknown illness.

Alexia Morris, 11, died Sunday in route to a Houston hospital, school officials said.

An autopsy has been ordered on the Cypress Grove sixth grader to determine the cause of death.

School officials said Alexia had flu-like symptoms and missed a couple days of school last week. Officials said that local doctors determined her lungs were filled with fluid when examined on Sunday, and decided to transfer her to Houston.

Counselors are being made available at Cypress Grove, as well as College Station Middle School and Forest Ridge Elementary, where her siblings attend school.

Teachers say they'll miss the little girl, who had big dreams.

"Alexia would come in prepared everyday, she would come in determined. She wanted to be a doctor. Even in the sixth grade, she knew what she wanted to do," Cypress Grove teacher Sandy Lewellen said.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Lincoln Center in College Station, officials said.
