Diesel Spill Stalls Hwy 290 Traffic

As the Aggies kicked off their second game of the year, there were many Houston and Louisiana-Lafayette fans late arriving after a major accident on Highway 290 between Houston and Hempstead.

It happened around 12:30 Saturday afternoon. Reports out of Houston have a tanker truck as the lone vehicle involved in the wreck. Some 9,000 gallons of diesel fuel spilled across the westbound lanes, forcing the closure of all lanes in that direction.

Traffic was being diverted onto nearby roads, including through some subdivisions. As of 10pm, Houston's TransStar service was still reporting traffic delays on 290 westbound.
