Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst plans to push for tougher penalties for child molesters during the 2007 legislative session.
Dewhurst, who presides over the Texas Senate, will encourage lawmakers to pass a version of Florida's "Jessica's Law."
That law is named after nine-year-old Jessica Lunsford, who was kidnapped and buried alive by a registered sex offender.
The proposal is part of a five-point "Texas Children First" plan Dewhurst is expected to unveil Thursday in Austin.
Mark Lunsford -- Jessica's father -- is scheduled to attend.
Republican Dewhurst is facing Democrat Maria Luisa Alvarado and Libertarian Judy Baker in the November seventh election.
