Investigators say a 4-year-old boy died from his injuries after being bitten by a pit bull.

Around 5:15 p.m. deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home in the 5700 block of Pinehurst just west of Conroe.

When they arrived deputies say they found that the child had serious injuries and was going to be taken by helicopter to a Houston Hospital.

Investigators with the Major Crimes Unit learned that the child had climbed a chain link fence into a neighbor’s yard and, though the dog was chained, they boy was attacked and bitten by the dog.

The victim’s 9 year old sister pulled the boy to safety and called for help.

The four-year-old died at the hospital. Animal Control officers came to the scene and took custody of the dog.

The investigation is on-going as investigators complete interviews and examines evidence. Criminal charges are not anticipated.
