Bryan City Council meets Tuesday. And one thing on the agenda is the discussion of a property tax freeze for the elderly and the disabled.
Bryan Mayor Ernie Wentrcek is scheduled to make the presentation during council's workshop session Tuesday afternoon.
The item is not on the regular agenda, and is not up for a vote.
If property taxes are frozen for the disabled and the elderly, it would cost the city an estimated $91,000 in 2007, more than $317,000 in 2008, and more than $585,000 in 2009.
The movement to get Bryan to freeze property tax rates is spearheaded by Bryan resident Perry Slagle. Slagle also led the effort to get Brazos County to take similar steps in 2004.
