A single vehicle accident in Leon County closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 45 for several hours today.
Shortly after two Monday afternoon, a 21-year-old Spring woman was air lifted to Scott & White in Temple, with critical head injuries.
She has since been moved to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.
The victim had to be cut from the from the wreckage.
Her 31-year-old boyfriend from Conroe was thrown from the vehicle and briefly pinned beneath the wreckage. He was transported to Madisonville Saint Joseph.
A Leon County state trooper says alcohol was involved and that it appears the driver of the red Ford Ranger truck lost control, skidded then flipped for about 70-feet before landing on its side in a concrete culvert.
Neither were wearing seat belts and their names are not being released until family is notified. The accident remains under investigation and charges could be filed against the driver.
