A pair of hefty endorsements came in Wednesday for District 17's Republican challenger.
Van Taylor's campaign released text of endorsements from President Bush and his wife, Laura, who both are registered to vote in the district.
The president called Taylor "an outstanding leader who will make a difference in Congress. I strongly support Van and urge my neighbors to do so."
Mrs. Bush added, "Van Taylor is a loving father and outstanding leader. I ask my fellow Texans to join George and me to support Van for Congress."
In the past, Vice President Dick Cheney and Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert have stumped for the former Marine in the Waco area.
The endorsements come just days after incumbent Democrat Chet Edwards touted a poll conducted by a Washington firm showing him in front in the race by 21 points.
The most recent endorsements for the eight-term Congressman seeking a second term in District 17 have come from newspapers: the Waco Tribune-Herald, the Dallas Morning News, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
