In Hearne's mayoral race, old is new again.
Ruben Gomez was the winner in Saturday night's election with 53 percent of the ballots in his favor. The former mayor and current councilmember beat out not only challenger Kenneth Byrd, but also the incumbent mayor, Milton Johnson.
Johnson had failed to file before the candidate's deadline, but was a write-in candidate. He earned just 12 percent of the votes.
Gomez had served multiple terms as the city's mayor before Johnson defeated him in 2007. Gomez's son is also a current councilmember.
Johnson came under fire earlier this year after he allegedly screamed at a Hearne Police officer and threatened his job, all over the officer stopping Johnson for his failure to use a turn signal.
Another interesting mayoral race came in Anderson, the Grimes County seat. Incumbent Gail Sowell retained her position with 72 percent of the votes.
Sowell defeated Wayne Rucker, who served for decades as a clerk in Grimes County. Rucker had run for sheriff last year but lost. The winner: incumbent Don Sowell, who is married to the Anderson mayor.
