Harris County officials say a 10-year-old boy playing at a construction site was killed when a sand pile collapsed on him.
Sheriff's deputies and witnesses said the boy was burrowing into the sand pile Sunday when the accident occurred. The victim's 5-year-old brother ran home to report the accident, but the boys' mother was unable to pull the older boy out.
Neighbor Marlow Falwell called it a "freak accident."
In her words, "These were just kids being typical kids and playing in the sand."
Falwell said her husband found the 10-year-old facedown in the sand, pulled him out and performed CPR. Efforts to resuscitate the boy were unsuccessful.
