The Bryan school district has approved a final cost for the new Rudder High School. Monday, the school board voted to accept a guaranteed maximum price of $50,980,201 for the school.
That number is over budget from what the district projected back in 2003. The original proposal was for $42 million dollars. But according to Mike Kristynik, a district assistant superintendent, the schools size has increased since then and construction costs have gone up enormously.
The new building will be 295 thousand square feet and will house 16 hundred students. At first, the district was only planning for a 270 thousand square foot facility.
Ground was broken on Rudder High School in September. Doors should be open for the 2008-2009 school year.
