A Bryan man has been given a hefty sentence after pleading guilty to murder.
J.D. McGee, 36, was sentenced Thursday to 40 years in prison for the 2005 murder of Maurice Tucker and the attempted murder of Brandon Lott.
Police say in October of last year, McGee fatally shot Tucker in the face in the 1100 block of Georgia.
Lott survived a gunshot wound to the chest.
McGee plead guilty Tuesday to both charges.
"This was a senseless act of violence," Assistant District Attorney Jarvis Parsons said. "Maurice Tucker tried to be a peacemaker and for that his life was taken by a cowardly act. This sentence keeps our community safe and the defendant behind bars for a very long time."
