A well known pediatrician passed away. Doctor William Conkling died at the age of 80 on Tuesday in Oklahoma City. He had been battling pancreatic cancer.
The long time pediatrician was well known in the Brazos Valley and the medical community for decades.Described as an innovative physician by a colleague, Dr. Conkling was able to make an impact in his profession.
Dr. Conkling held numerous positions locally and throughout the state. At one time he was the president of the Texas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He succeeded in becoming an examiner for the American Board of Pediatrics. Conkling was also one of the founders of the University Pediatrics Associations.
The doctor was know more locally for the three practices he held in Navasota, Bryan, and College Station. An opportunity lead Dr. Conkling to Oklahoma. He was a professor at the University of Oklahoma in the Medical School's Department of Pediatrics and had just retired from the school a year ago
