A bizarre death of a man in custody in Milam County is now under investigation by the Texas Rangers.
Rosendo Gayton, 52, died Wednesday, November 1, at an Austin hospital after collapsing at the Milam County jail. Gayton had been arrested earlier in the evening by Rockdale police and charged with public intoxication.
Authorities say he fought with another inmate in his holding cell, so they moved Gayton to the Milam County jail. He reportedly continued to lash out before suddenly collapsing.
Gayton was taken to a Cameron hospital, then transferred to Austin where he died.
An autopsy has been perfomed, but it will be several weeks before the exact cause of death is determined.
