State Rep Reportedly Assaulted by Former Opponent

DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas -- State Representative Patrick Rose says the Republican he unseated in 2002 shoved and tried to punch him Tuesday outside a polling place.

Rose, who's a Democrat from Dripping Springs, defeated then-incumbent Rick Green by 335 votes in 2002.

Green later turned himself into Hays County authorities on a charge of assault with bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor. He's free on $5,000 bond.

Rose, who said he wasn't injured, is running for re-election for District 45 against Republican Jim Neuhaus.

Rose says he had no brewing trouble with Green and doesn't know what prompted the alleged attack. The Austin American-Statesman reports the incident happened outside Sunset Canyon Baptist Church in Dripping Springs.
